SENATORIAL CANDIDATE
17. D’ANGELO, DAVID
PARTIDO LAKAS NG MASA

David D’Angelo, 44, is a long-time environmental and climate action advocate. He is the current president of the Green Party of the Philippines and a member of the Climate Reality Leadership Corps, a team of activists supporting The Climate Reality Project founded by former US Vice President Al Gore.

D’Angelo is campaigning on a seven-point political platform: declaring a climate emergency, blockchain governance, new and alternative minerals management, green and affordable energy, educational reforms, legislating environmental code amendments as well as organic farming and food sovereignty.

He vows to push legislation that will favor the GPP’s Green Agenda, which includes recognizing the rights of local communities in managing their own ecosystems and instituting a national moratorium on mining until a national land-use plan is created, identifying the areas which can and cannot be used for mining activities.

D’Angelo also wants to revisit the Rice Tariffication Law, which he claims is putting local farmers at a disadvantage. He also wishes to increase the funding for healthcare, in preparation for future pandemics.

He also supports strengthening the use of blockchain and cryptocurrency to improve the economy.

During the filing of his certificate of candidacy, D’Angelo stressed that no other senatorial candidate has a strong environmental agenda, despite the UN Intergovernmental Panel of Climate Change’s declaration of “Code Red for Humanity.” D’Angelo has referred to his candidacy as an “extinction rebellion.”

He supports legalizing divorce but with strict provisions and very clear circumstances, decriminalizing libel, passing an anti-dynasty law, the Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Expression Equality Bill, the Human Rights Defenders Protection Bill, and reforming the party-list system.

D’Angelo opposes reinstating the death penalty, the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020, the mandate and multi-billion-peso funding of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict, and same-sex marriage but supports same-sex civil unions.

He is included in the senatorial slate of labor leader Leody de Guzman under Partido Lakas ng Masa.
